JUMP THE FENS PARTY The "Jump the FENS" social is organized by PhD students for all visitors of the FENS Forum. It will be a huge party that takes place on Monday, July 5, 2010 from 20:00 to 02:30 in the famous nightclub "Melkweg" very close to the Leidseplein. The Leidseplein is one of the busiest centers for night life in Amsterdam. In the "Melkweg" a variety of artists will perform to create a wonderful and unforgettable atmosphere. Music on-demand, classics from the 80/90's, rock, jazz and other nice music genres will treat your ears, and will make you want to dance the night away. Opera and stand-up comedy will provide a nice variety for those who would like to sit, listen and be entertained. There will be an art gallery and a cinema with movies to even give your eyes some joy. A big café on the ground floor and a small tea-room on the third floor will give you the opportunity to sit, relax and chat with others and also allow to enjoy the party in a quieter environment. To conclude the party, a surprise night act will take place, certainly worth staying for!! Connect with your colleague scientists from all over the world and enjoy the Jump the FENS party! A detailed program of the "Jump the FENS" party will be available on the "Jump the FENS" website at the beginning of 2010. On this website you will also find information about the performing artists and how to get there. >>TOP JUMP THE FENS - WEBSITE FOR EXCHANGE On the "Jump the FENS" website you will find a lot of info about the city of Amsterdam, where to go, what’s hot, and what’s not, as well as tips by the organizing committee. To this end there is also a forum available on the webpages to communicate with other guests about your plans and activities. For more information, e-mail the "Jump the FENS" committee at jumpthefens@fensforum2010.eu or visit our website at www.jumpthefens.eu, or - at the meeting - visit our information stand in the RAI Congress Centre.
FENS/IBRO ALUMNI PARTY On Tuesday evening July 6, 2010, the FENS / IBRO European Neuroscience Schools Programme will organize after its symposium an Alumni party at 20:00 for students and faculty of previous FENS and IBRO Schools and IBRO VLTP courses. For food, drinks and dancing, join us at the Concert hall of Odeon! Venue: Odeon, Singel 460, 1017 AW Amsterdam
TRAVEL GRANTS For information about travel grants, go to the Travel grants page. AMSTERDAM YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD The Amsterdam Young Scientist Award of the "Nieuw Amsterdams Peil Initiatief" (NAP-Initiative) will be presented to André Fischer (Göttingen, Germany) prior to his presentation in the "Breaking News in Neuroscience" special event SE09 (session 217) on Wednesday July 7, 12:00-13:00. ACCOMMODATION FOR STUDENTS The RAI Hotel Service provide on the FENS Forum hotel reservation page a variety of hotels in different price range. The Local Organizing Committee strongly advises you to share a room in one of the 2-star hotels as this will offer you a student-comfortable price per night. Note that Amsterdam is a tourist spot and that the Tour de France will start in The Netherlands on Saturday July 3, 2010. Though this start will be in Rotterdam and the RAI Hotel Service has acquired many pre-reservation for FENS Forum participants, there will be a great pressure of demands for hotels in Amsterdam and therefore early booking is advised. There are no student rooms for rent in Amsterdam. However, make use of the Jump the FENS website to seek exchange with Amsterdam neuroscience students to get further suggestions for alternative ways of accommodation. You may even put an ad up asking if one of them could host you! Last update: June 3, 2010
